Interested in Ride London 2016 but missed out on the ballot?
mothers2mothers has guaranteed places for this 100-mile annual festival of cycling, held on 31st July 2016. mothers2mothers is an organisation committed to ending paediatric AIDS. Each day, 600 children are still infected with HIV. Almost 90% of these live in sub-Saharan Africa, and most acquire HIV from their mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. This is almost entirely preventable.
We train, employ, and empower Mentor Mothers, who are mothers living with HIV, to work alongside doctors and nurses in understaffed health centres as members of the healthcare team. Mentor Mothers provide essential education and support to other HIV-positive mothers on how they can protect their babies from HIV infection, and keep themselves and their families healthy. Mentor Mothers’ ties to the community and first-hand knowledge of HIV makes them highly effective peer mentors.
mothers2mothers relies on the support of fundraisers to help us reach our goal of a zero transmission rate for paediatric AIDS. As part of the mothers2mothers Ride London 2016 team, you will receive:
- Regular training emails, helping you build up your fitness
- Full support with your fundraising, helping you to smash your target
- On-the-ground support on the day of the event from the mothers2mothers team
