Looking for legal advice

Couldn't find a legal section so am posting here and hope it's ok
Had a bad accident last Thursday...driver's fault, witnesses etc.
Actually made the news...http://m.enfieldindependent.co.uk/news/14413444.Cyclist_hit_by_car_yesterday_had_to_have_emergency_surgery_in_the_road/#comments-anchor
Pelvis crumbled, steel plates, screws and so on...probably gained half a kilo in metalwork.
Still at the hospital for another 1-2 weeks, then wheelchair a few weeks...back on bike (MAYBE) in 3 months...
But I'm alive and am starting to look for advice on medical injury and property loss.
I want the guy who did this to me to loose his licences and maybe save some lives by doing that...this is something the police will take care of. (Reckless driving or whatever they are going to call it).
I'll also want a new bike and new kit as it was all ruined.
Beyond that it'll be personal and physical inconvenience to me & family, time loss etc
etc.
I'm not a member of BC or any other cycling organisation (I know I know...will sign up ASAP) so I'm asking for some names/ contacts from people who've had similar experiences and successfully managed to get what they were after?
PM me if that more convenient, I'll appreciate any kind of advice
Thanks!!!
Yair

I'm no legal eagle but in something this serious I wouldn't be looking at a "no win-no fee" firm.

    Get well soon though.
    Advocate of disc brakes.

The lawyers that the CTC use must have a decent track record in this so it might be worth contacting them, without prejudice or committal at this stage? Slater and Gordon I believe.

    Sorry to hear about that.

Ask the mods to move this into commuting chat - many lawyers in there and many people who have had accidents, so you may get more responses.

You have said so yourself, but this should serve as a reminder to EVERY cyclist out there that £25 quid BC membership is worth every penny in legal fee insurance.

Check your household insurance - there may be legal cover on there.

    BC use Leigh Day
Assuming he has admitted liability or the police secure a prosecution it should be quite straight forward but as others have said I'd pay for a lawyer and not go down the no win no fee route. Good luck and hope you make a full recovery

Luckily I've never had need to use them - but they have done work for a couple of my cycling pals - http://www.alysonfrance.co.uk/

    Owner is a cyclist herself.

    Heal well.

They did well for me when I had an accident ten years back.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Good luck. You should be able to get an interim payment quite quickly to cover costs incurred to date (bike, clothing etc)
Remember to document all expenses and time (and time from helpers)

Injury claim likely to take a while as they will not want you to settle until completely recovered

Thank you Mike for the advice, much appreciated!
I'm likely to be discharged today or tomorrow...go home and start working on my recovery...
