As a matter of interest what do you guys all consider to best mountain bikes under £1000 in 2016?
I am still thinking about what bike to get and my budget has raised slightly. I would like a an all rounder for country paths but also forest trails.

I have been reading through several bike review sites and forums etc. It has been very difficult to make a decision as there are so many options.0

Look at Paul's cycles some real bargains http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m1b0s183p5 ... 7-5-3-20150

Bossnut/Trance/Anthem/Boardman Team for full sussers (all available around £1000 in some versions with certain offers).
Hardtail wise is hard to look past the OnOne Parkwood GX.0 -
Wow I like the look of that giant bike on pauls cycles I had not heard of the OnOne Parkwood GX but it looks really nice. Does it generaly get good reviews?0

The Anthem looks nice, hows it compare to a Trance X3?Bossnut - http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=13069531

Depends on what you attend to use it for? One has 100mm of front travel while the other has 140mm and is more trail orientated0

140 is the Trance isnt it?
I've got a 100mm travel hardtail and think I need a bit more for most of my riding.Bossnut - http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=13069531

I have also started looking on the bird website as I have seen good reviews for their bikes. I notice you can configure what parts you want on their bikes. Does anybody know a good combo of parts to pick to make a great trail bike?0

I'd call them and have a chat with Ben. He'll give you better and more specific advice within your budget - and he'll be building the bike for you anyway.I don't do smileys.

Will do thanks. I suppose my final question is that as I am a beginner that would like a bike for a bit of trail and country path cycling. Am I better off spending a 1000 on an amazing bike or would I better off with a voodoo bizango, carrera fury? Only thing is I would like to buy a bike that will last me years, so am worried if i bought a 600 bike would i only want to buy a better bike very shortly after? Sorry about these questions, its just I am new to all this!0

Buy a decent quality used bike, see what you like and don't like, sell the used bike (minimal loss) and buy a bike that then suites what sort of riding you have decided you want to do.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Well, I headed down to halfords today to try a bizango, fury and a Boardman. I found that the bizango just felt too big for me and I preferred the boardman pro 29er which obviously costs more. I think its now between this Boardman and the on one parkwood. Anybody have an opinion on either of these as they are the same price, or is my 1000 better spent elsewhere? I meant to try the 13 brand in halfords but ran out of time.0
