You can join casings but I don't recommend it. If there is any sort of bend in the cable routing the two pieces tend to kink easily. There are ferrules that have two female ends for just this purpose but for the cost and effort you may as well just buy the proper length of casing and be done with it.0

Look for "inline cable tension adjuster" or similar.
As well as joining cable most have an integrated barrel adjuster but you may be able to find a passive version.
Works fine on straight runs as well as gentle curves.

"Double-ended ferrule", "junction ferrule", or various other names. They are quite hard to get hold of, so I make my own by soldering together two normal nickel-plated ferrules.0

All that trouble to save a few pennies. Casing is pretty cheap why bodge the job.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

Its not about saving pennies, but im fixing a bike for a neighbour and he does not want to replace the handlebar tape as its only on the bike a few months, so thought of another optionhttps://www.instagram.com/seanmcgrathphotography/

No need to replace the bar-tape, just unwind it to the shifter, fix the cable issue, rewind bar-tape and secure with electrical tape. Job doneFFS! Harden up and grow a pair0

This is what the Russians ( no offence, but they're renowned for making do) would do...
Get two end caps, make sure they butt up flat to each other, and use some good strong tape to make it rigid.0
