Headset Bolt not unscrewing

Hi guys,

I have just bought a new stem for my Allez Sport (2012). I'm trying to remove the top cap, the headset hex bolt is turning but not unscrewing and the top cap rotates with it. (I.e. I can rotate the bolt anticlockwise but it doesn't loosen) Does anyone have any suggestions of how to remove the bolt/top cap?

    Likely the starnut is rotating with the bolt. Try gently prising upwards at the same time as you turn the bolt head?

    worst case you can drill/grind the screw head off and remove it that way

    if the threaded insert in the starnut is loose, you'll need to replace it

    in the same situation i've flipped it sideways then used a screwdriver to bend it so that it is loose enough to hook out with a bit of wire, but if you can't get the nut out you can just knock it a bit further down the steerer tube
