Hi,

I've been given a team place in this years Ride London, and received my email asking me to complete a form and pay. So I've done all that. However, somebody has since mentioned to me that I need to be a 'paying' British Cycling member in order to take part in this event.

The online form I completed did ask if I was a member and asked for my membership number. So I just used my membership number that is given to my free online BC account. I've since received an email confirming payment, and wishing me luck.

So, does anyone know if you have to be 'paying' BC member or not??

  • You do not have to be a BC member for this or any other sportive that I am aware of.

IIRC I was not a BC member the first year I did it.

Not correct, to join as a club member you do need to have a BC membership and the club secretary should have communicated that to you as they knew when they signed the club up.

I have a BC membership number, just not a paid membership. There was the option to state 'No' , when asked if I had BC membership. Which kind of implies you could proceed without it.

    From the email............

    Team Checklist

    2. Every rider in a team must be a current British Cycling member.
    3. Teams can comprise of four men or four women or a mixed team of two men and two women.
    4. Riders who hold an Elite or Category 1 British Cycling Race Licence are not eligible to enter the Club Challenge.
    5. Riders who have already secured an individual place through the original entry ballot or a charity place are not
eligible to enter the Club Challenge.

Doesn't state whether you need to be a paying member......... I have a membership number, so surely I am a member...... :?

Didn't pick up on 'team' as being a 'cycling club' place.

Have you anything 'additions' to your membership such as being an 'accredited marshall' as you get free bronze membership if you are.

As it happens I've just got the bronze membership for 12 months for free and the membership number has remained the same, so no need to change anything, so panic over. Thanks for the input guys. :)

It appears 1st time members who's clubs are signed up to BC get their bronze membership free for the first 12 months
