Hi all, I have noticed a crack around the bottom of my seat stay. Is it a carbon crack or a lacquer crack?
The seat stay is solid and doesn't flex abnormally. I don't hear any creaking. The ride feel is unchanged.

Thanks.

    Hi thanks for the reply. As well as posting the above, I had emailed Ribble, they confirmed this morning, alloy drop outs and that the crack is cosmetic only. Relief!

    Glad you got an official answer, but I was going to say that my guess is it's fine.

    If it were carbon fibre, and if it were a genuine crack then there's no way;
    a) that you wouldn't feel something wrong under load
    b) that it wouldn't have gone on the other side, probably resulting in a catastrophic failure

    You can usually tell by tapping all around with something metal and listening to the tone of the tap - a crack often tells this way.
