Upgrading my original road bike - Advice needed!
Hi all! I'm finally back after a streak of inactivity due to personal issues!
So I've got back riding after a while but I'm stuck on my old, first ever road bike, the Carrera Tdf Ltd 2014! This I because my main baby (Lucile) was written off in a collision I had (I'm fine and the new bike is on its way)
I have had the thought of upgrading the bike because I need a project to keep me entertained while I keep on with my physiotherapy and recovery. The frame, 7005 alloy, is nice to me-lovely and light - I'll weigh it to get exact measurements. It's the wheelset and drivetrain that really weigh it down as well as the finishing kit because they're the stock that it came with, the boring 14 speed.
SO my ideas were that I could buy a higher end wheelset, tiagra groupset (11 speed I'd rather not have on this bike but my main steeds), carbon forks and new finishing kit. I will probably also give the bike a fresh paint. Make it personal!!
***** I WANT TO MESS AROUND WITH THE BIKE FOR FUN AND HAVE THE OUTCOME OF A WINTER/TRAINING BIKE*****
This is the general outline of the bike. ***IT ISNT MINE JUST AN EXAMPLE***

Thanks a lot guys

Not worth spending that sort of money on. Your bike has an alloy fork. You could get a new bike with a carbon fork and Sora groupset for around £400, so not much more than the groupset will cost. Plus you say you need new wheels too...
Giant Defy 3 2015 models were going for less than £400 last time I looked.0 -
I agree with Semantik's comment: you either upgrade the whole bike or get some second hand parts.
PlanetX are always doing good deals on bikes and parts.
You can also look in the second hand buy/sell pages to pick up a whole bike or groupset alone.0 -
Probably only worth doing with cheap-as-chips used parts.
I did something similar with my old B'Twin Triban 3 a few years ago, as the original components wore out. My £300 bike got a mix of Tiagra & 10-speed 105, RS11 wheels etc - so I spent about £250 to upgrade it to the spec of a new £500 bike. :roll:0
