First Mountain Bike £500

Hi all,

new to the forum, looking at purchasing my first hard tail bike, popular question so ill narrow it down - which hardtail to i buy for £500?

Looking at the:

New Giant Bikes £400-£500
Rockrider 560 - Currently £450
Cube Aim 2016 - £500
Alpine 13 currently £500 at Halfords

as an outsider there is also the Carrera Fury currently at £500 also at Halfords.

Any Help will be greatly appreciated,

Guessing the "Alpine 13" is meant to to be the 13 Implicit Alpha for ~£450? Nice frame and forks, slightly weak brakes, but a bike very worthy of upgrades in the future.

The Cube is terrible for the money, some really low end parts there and a fork that weighs as much as some DH forks. Same with the Giant - at least the fork gets a rudimentary damping cartridge, but that chainset and cable brakes are inexcusable at this price, a disaster of a spec from Giant who should know better. The GT is not too bad for a larger brand name. All are similar in geo and intended use.

The Rockrider fairs much better but this years 560 offers little over the cheaper 540. The 13 Incline Alpha is the pick here though, quality butted frame, great fork - and this fork will make a huge difference compared to the others.
