Hi all, done my research just need to check it's going to work before I commit.

I currently have Specialized Camber running 2x10 with a 11-36 rear cassette, SRAM X9

I want to fit a Sunrace MS3 10 speed 12-42 cassette, will this work with my current rear derailleur or will I encounter problems? Will
I need a new chain if I'm fitting a new cassette?

I could go 11-40 but the 11-42 works out better when I do the maths/ratios.

Thanks, Jay

You need to check the capacity of your mech, and you might need a new chain. Depends on the chainring used - measure and see.

Thanks, how can I find out the capacity of my mech???

Chain hasn't been used a great deal but as I'm replacing cassette and chainring I'm thinking may be worth replacing

Should be on the Sram website, or the docs that came with the mech, or a sellers info online. Depends on the model.

SRAM rear derailleur a have a capacity from 37 (short cage) to 45 (long cage). With the single front chainring my range would be 31 with a 11-42 cassette which is well within the max capacity - but what about the actual physical size of the 42 ring? Will the derailleur be able to move that far??????

People are using them on 42T yes, you may need a longer B-screw (many ebay sellers include one), or just use the 11-40 instead and it will be fine.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
