Been searching for a C50 for a while and have noticed a couple on ebay.

It seems this retailer http://stores.ebay.co.uk/shopretaildire ... kw=colnago has a few of them 1 of which I am keen on.

Price wise it seems in line with what they generally go for but I have seen 1 frame that they have that has been for sale for 3 or 4 months now which seems odd as they are pretty desirable. Is there anything i should specifically be asking? They seem legit on the face of it but sell a lot of different types of goods and are not a bike specialist. I am wondering how they get so many of these frames.

Would hate to make a mistake with it so just after a bit of advice and thoughts of anyone who has experience with these types of frames.

Cheers,

One thing to note and sorry if this is teaching you to suck eggs, but the C50 takes a 28.0mm seat post, so you either need to find an original C50 post or shims to take a 27.2mm up to 28.0mm, something to bear in mind if you're going to make an offer.

Personally I'd want one in slightly more adventurous colours, but that's just how I like my Colnagos - I've got a Dream and a Master Olympic.

They made the C50 from 2004 to 2010 ish but they soon introduced the Extreme C and Extreme Power to better cater for different requirement. You then had the EPS in 2009 and because a lot of new custom went towards the EPS C50 sales really tailed off, think they sold less than 10 C50s in Italy in 09?

They changed the C50 fork from Star to Star 75 in around 2008 so this may be an 04-08 C50 but sometimes the newer fork didn't always have the 75 graphic so it's hard to tell, the main give away is the lug length and the one you like looks to have the longer lugs and is therefore an early C50 but again it's hard to tell.

Have you also considered a late C40 HP Stay? Meant to ride pretty much the same as a C50.

This is a really good document for the carbon evolution of Colnago http://brown-snout.com/cycling/tech/_co ... y-tree.pdf

  • Thanks Matt, some good info there. I was aware of the seatpost sizing. I hadn't considered the c40HP so will take a look now.
