    My point to the OP was if he is intending to ride on event day & not use feed/water stops, he & his mate will need to know where he can replicate these. Ie know where the water taps are along the route & where he can get food (shops, cafes etc).

    Good point. From memory, and not having ridden the Mamoth there is a fountain at the Riviers d'allemont on the right. Next at St Columban at the Tourist Office. Don't know about the valley but there is a bar at the exit of St Columban. The foot of the Telegraph also has bars and shops and a drinks machine in the railway station. Valloire is well served for cafes and there is a water point. On the left at the foot of the last steep bit of the Galibier there is a nice restaurant in an old stone farm house (Plan lachat?). Next stop col du Lauteret for a bar but I didn't find a water point. Coming through la Grave there is a water fountain on the left in the middle of town.
