Which bottom brackets are compatible with my Planet X Pro Carbon Campag Veloce bike?

Hey everyone,

I bought a Planet X Pro Carbon bike last October, and, unfortunately, the bottom bracket has started to sound very creaky/grindy. It's been ridden hard in the Cornish hills, and on my turbo trainer, so was to be expected.

Unfortunately, I haven't changed a bottom bracket before, but want to have a go. It has a 'BSA 68mm British Standard' bottom bracket (screw in type), and it has Campagnolo Veloce components.

My question is, what BBs will be compatible with my frame? Does it need to be Campagnolo specific etc? Also, which tools/grease etc would you all recommend?

Apologies for the noob question, but we all had to start somewhere :)

Not a Campag expert, but imagine the Veloce chainset will be Ultratorque so you will need something like these: https://www.merlincycles.com/campagnolo ... 55986.html

    How to fit it:

Sounds like the bearings are gone, and I'd imagine that they would be power torque, not ultra torque, at least unless the bike is a few years old.

I have some bnib replacements you can have for cheap if you like OP. Probably an lbs job to replace them though. The tools are a little specialised.
  • Your frame is compatible with all BSA English threaded bottom brackets, however the type of chainset you are using dictates what type of BSA BB you then require, confirm the type of chainset you have and someone will no doubt help you, bikes can often be built with Campag or shimano etc. and then run different type chainsets, FSA as an example.

Any tools required will vary depending on the answer to the above.

it's a one year old bike from Planet x with Veloce chainset according to OP and so inevitably going to be Powertorque bottom bracket as previous poster points out
  • Thanks for all the info everyone... Really helpful!

    One more question, sorry!

I've notice that the bearings and the cups are sold separately. Is it usual practice to replace everything when replacing the bearings (I assume, maybe wrongly, to improve the chance of there being an effective seal, compared with the used cups), or is it possible to only change the bearings?
  • Just replace the bearings. With power torque you'll need a bearing puller to get both the chain set off and the bearings from the axle so you might find it easier to get your LBS to do it.
