Hi - I need to replace my worn out 5700 RD and, having read about how the 5800 is a bit of an improvement, I have stupidly rushed into buying a 5800 RD assuming that it would be a straight swap.

However I now read about the 11 speed RD possibly having a different amount of pivot per click of cable pull and am wondering if it is going to index correctly with my 5700 shifters and 5700 10 speed cassette.

Any help gratefully received!

Hi, Shimano changed things up on the 11 speed groups. The 5800 one won't be compatible. You need any rear derailler pre-11 speed.

As above replace it like for like or upgrade it to ultegra 10 speed (6700)

I had to do mine recently too. It's annoying as the 5700 is now at the point where it costs more than the 5800.

This should be just short of £22 with postage using PXPPP40 (http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/RMSHOEM105 ... -rear-mech)
  • Thanks everyone for the replies. I've sent back the 5800 and am awaiting the 5700 :-)
