Riding the gutter is never risk free. I did it at Hem as I was trying to ride conservatively by this point having already destroyed my rear tyre. Managed to blow my front inner tube in a pothole - at that point it really didn't seem like a ** sector!
Were you one of the RPR boys? Think i saw you on the Friday at registration - we rolled out to try and find Hems for a recce and you were with us for a time from the velodrome but split off before we got out of Roubaix?

I was at registration when the RPR boys were registering, I had a chat with one of them who I know. I was in regular clothes though. Dulwich Paragon shorts and a black Gabba on Saturday.

Haven't done this in a few years - ridden the full-length VC Roubaix event a few times when you could literally rock-up and ride. There was something quite magical about riding through the pre-dawn and seeing a line of blinking lights through the dawn mist into the distance. ASO event is a bit of a shandy-drinkers version ;-)
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Was my first time doing the Roubaix this year and I loved it. Well, I didn’t at the time, this is all retrospective. Having the right bike setup helped though. Shame I didnt put in the amount of training I should have done, just winged it.

And I agree about Roubaix too, it's a dump! We decided to walk into town to the bus station from the velodrome on Sunday and that was really sketchy. Proper Ghetto/slum.
  • I rode PR this year, full distance on fixed. Supple 35mm tyres with latex tubes felt like cheating on the cobbles, I was just cruising past people.

Impressive! I wouldn'thave fancied some of those early descent on fixed - fine with a clear road, but not so good with people slamming the brakes on, sliding off line, spilling bottles left right and centre etc.

I got back to the UK and was searching for my exposure light. I KNEW I had it on the Roubaix as I was thinking to myself "this mount is impressive!" while being rattled in the trench.

Paid for the official photos and noticed a before and after.

Light was pinched on the second feedstop. :-(
