Cycling insurance?

Was wondering about cycling insurance. Do I need it? I mean suppose I cause a crash or take someone on the pavement out, who's going to pay?

Most household insurance policies provide liability cover for third parties, check your policy wording. British Cycling membership and I think CTC membership both also provide cover.

Give way to pedestrians if you need to ride on the pavement.

Thanks for the info. Will check my household policy.

I didn't actually meant I rode on the pavement - just if I somehow ended up there, at speed...
