Pinnacle Arkose Samox External BB fail...
The non-drive side bearings on my Arkose singlespeed bottom bracket have seized after only @ 10 rides out. The rides have been pretty muddy (I.e. what it's designed for) although bike has been carefully washed after each excursion (no pressure washers). Noticed the cranks wouldn't turn freely last night so removed them to look at BB. Drive side bearing nice and smooth, non-drive side won't turn. Crankset is by Samox, is used on the Singlespeed and 1x variants, and has a Shimano-style external BB system (although unsure at this stage whether interchangeable or compatible).
Bike is less than 3 months old. That's a bit premature to seize, no? Will have to take to Evans to assess for possible warranty claim, but wondered if other owners had had any issues?
cheers

Does sound very short lived to me. Hopefully you'll get a new one under warranty. My 105 and Ultegra external BBs have lasted 4 or 5 years apiece, and they go out in all weathers. Shimano pressfit BB86 on the summer bike I'm hoping will last indefinitely...0

I have a Pinnacle Arkose 2 (the 1 x 10 one with TRP discs).
BB also seized within 5 months - about 750-1000 miles. Granted some were pretty muddy, but as you say it is what the bike is designed for!
I'd say just spend a tenner on a new Shimano 105 BB and be done with it. Even if Evans do a warranty replacement, they'll probably just do a like-for-like leaving you with another dodgy BB plus you've got the hassle of carting it to them. It's an easy job to do at home.0 -

Thanks. That was kind of the advice I was looking for (that the Samox chainset would work with a Shimano external BB, but really wasn't sure which one?) I had been looking at MTB BBs, on the basis that I assume they have better bearing seals (so XT, SLX groups, etc) but you say the 105 road BB would fit?Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0 -
Took it back in the end. Evans replaced the Samox BB with a Shimano XT MTB external BB FOC as an upgrade under warranty.
