Garage? What do you mean? I keep it in the house. :)

Yeah, that's what I have a bike room for!!!

If I kept it in a shed or garage I'd be mightily tempted to have a pet Anaconda guarding it.

    Hi,

Looking for some advice regarding locking systems to securely lock my two road bikes and mountain bike in my garage.

I currently have one road bike and my mountain bike fastened together via a Kryptonite lock. However my other road bike which is currently fixed to my turbo trainer is unlocked. My garage has a sensor which is connected to the house alarm.

Do you guys have any suggestions how best to make these a nightmare for burglars to pinch should they break into my garage. Putting the bikes is a no-no as the other half won't allow it.

    Thanks,
    Darren.

If you already lock your bicycles in a garage linked to a domestic alarm system, you are way ahead of the curve.

Bicycles are generally stolen from premises by thieves who have come specifically for bicycles. They are cumbersome and hard to move. If (if) they have come for bicycles and if they get past the alarm, then they will probably leave with something, whatever you do.

These days wheels, saddles, stems and other anciliaries are worth good money used, are hard to trace and are easy to remove.

The trick (if there is a trick) is to live in a low-crime area, not advertise your location, not have flashy, top-end bicycles and not get casual about security.

For the record, I keep mine in a brick garage, hanging in a line from hooks in the rafters. None is worth more than about £500 and most considerably less. The garage is locked with a cheap Abus padlock. The bicycles share the space with an old freezer, a '60s roadster, several ladders and a ton of garden tools. Nothing has been stolen from the garage in 20 years, but if it happens it happens.
