Hi,
I have just got a gt palomar off ebay and although it's got a bit of rust to the frame it's alright. I've put some new brake on but kept the old style metal shimano v brake levers. It changed gear smooth everything, just needs a clean up and all will be good. I have a suspension fork not new but in working order 156 omni rst's and want to swap out the palomars standard fixie forks for them. Apart from needing spacers I think will be ok but I cannot get the fixie forks and old quill stem apart to install new forks. Any advice? The palomar could be from late 90's I think.
Any advice about if forks would fit or how to get the others apart I mean, thanks!

are the steerers the same diameter?
read how to deal with Quill stems on either Parktools or Sheldon Browns pages.
you will need to change headsets to the correct type. and the correct stem for the "new" fork and you may also find that the geometry is totally unsuitable for any suspension."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I they're these, I'd leave the rigid forks on.

They'll be rubbish as suspension, and heavier than the rigids.
Fixie refers to a fixed gear, not suspension.I don't do smileys.

:P thanks for the advice guys, can't believe I'm wasting my time trying to put a pair of crap forks on, truth is I'm just more used to suspension but I rode it yesterday and it was spot on tbh. Thanks for the terminology lesson cool dad, I don't want to look like a Pratt on here! Any chance that there are any suspension forks I could use?0
