BMC GF01 vs GF02

Hey guys,

I plan to buy a carbon endurance bike, and after visiting a few LBS, BMC's Granfondo series seem most appealing to me. (Cannondale synapse or Giant defy or Trek Domane or ... are all good bikes, I just personally liked BMC Granfondo more than the other options).

Now my question is whether I should go with BMC GF01 or GF02. They are both carbon frame bikes but it seems they have different carbon layups. In BMC website it states that the tubing for GF01 is called 'TTC 01' and for GF02 is 'TTC 02', but these doesn't mean anything to me. Does anyone know what is the real difference between the two frames and how critical that difference is.

The other difference is disk brake vs rim brake. I'm aware of all advantages and disadvantages of both and honestly at the end it doesn't matter for me, any of them works for me. So that's not going to be a deciding factor for me. Also any groupset from 105 above works for me.

So, to summarize, I want to know what is the real practical difference between gf01 and gf02 frames and what those 'TCC 01' and 'TCC 02' terms actually mean.

Motivation for the question:
The two bikes available at LBS are: 1. BMC GF01 Disk 105 2. BMC GF02 Ultegra
They are at the same price. I like the style/coloring of GF02 model more than the GF01 model. So I want to know if the difference between the frames are subtle and small, get the one that I like its color/style.

Thanks in advance!

You said it yourself in the last paragraph - you prefer the look of the GF02, so go for that one.

I don't know the exact layup process for BMC's frames, but the product manager for Felt Bikes (Dave Koesel aka Superdave) is a regular poster on US forums and he has often come out saying that the differences between different layups is effectively negligible from any performance perspective, but that they offer higher end layups (eg FRD) for people who need to spend the money of saving 100 grams and saying they have the top-of-the-range everything.

That sort of engineering openness was one of the reasons I bought a Felt!
  • Thanks so much for your advice. I ended up buying the GF02 Ultegra and so far I'm really happy with it.
