Good new bike for £500. You might pick up a 2nd hand one cheaper. Size is key. Have you sat on one, tried one out? I've got 2 defys ( composite 2 and defy 2 2012) and I've changed the stems on both to longer than they came , that was after months of riding, shop bike fit etc. Do you have a budget for clothing as well, pedals, shoes etc.0

Great as an intro to road bikes. Very comfortable. I've a Defy 3 that I bought cheap and have updated parts on it. I'm 182cm or 6ft. I have ML size. It's perfect. Felt a little long to start with but that's just me not being flexible. After exercise and core work it feels much better. Go for it!
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

I wouldn't but a tiagra 4600 bike as crankset is to ugly, and cables annoying
This is 4700 which has hidden cables also:

Found one going cheaper on eBay so might send him a message. I'm 5.9-5.10 so I think I'll be a medium, I'm a medium on my Giant Trance SX but I'll double check.
My problem is I'm not really in a position to go try any bikes I know of its not the best thing to do but...0 -

I agree that the crankset is ugly 100% can't say the look of that verenti Fram does much for me though0 -
Easy enough to swop the fugly crankest for a FC-4700 or FC-RS565/5700/6750 S.H. or new discounted.

105 for sure... go 11 speed and life's much easier when you try to upgrade your drive train at a later date.0

Agree, For the extra £50 over the 520 bike, the 11sp 105 540 bike is the better choice.0
