New wheels, notchy bearings!

Hi All,
I have just bought some new wheels (Vision Team 30) which have have cartridge bearings, however, when I turn the axle in the hub they are quite notchy. I have never had bearings do this before and would replace them if were old but they are brand new! I can't even find any service instructions for them so not much point in keeping them and they will be going back. A real shame as they a quite pretty wheels with wide rims (19mm internal).
Anything else I should consider for a 30-35 deep wheel set with a fashionably wide rim? (the Team 30's were £120 but might consider spending a little more.
