New commute - Leigh to Rochdale

Moved back up North and now living in Leigh and commuting to Rochdale. Did it for the first time on Friday and stupidly let RidewithGps plan my route without scrutinising every part of it. As a result I got taken through a moody council estate in the Bury suburbs and a greenway near Rochdale.
Have now planned the route out to avoid these, but wondering whether anyone local has any suggestions for improvements (other than stop working in Rochdale haha)
I'm going up to Four Lane Ends, then over and right into Plodder Lane, before going through Farnworth, Little Lever, Radcliffe and Heywood. Don't mind main roads - actually prefer them to smaller roads as less chance of being ploughed into by some dozy bint on the school run - but other than going into Bolton and through Bury (which would probably be horrendous) I can't really see an easy main road route
Any locals do anything similar?

Good hilly route that!!! I have some friends who live local to that, and ride, so I will ask them for you.
TBH, if you ant to stay on major roads, that route looks as good as it gets!0 -
Cheers. Are they any routes round there that aren't hilly? Par for the course Oop North. Garmin scr3wed me this morning. Punked out on me before I got to Radcliffe and I missed a turn. Had a visit from the PF as well :evil:Fat chopper. Some racing. Some testing. Some crashing.

So, turns out that there really aren't any better routes in than the one I'm doing. However, on the way home, it's better to go through Middleton and down into Salford/Manchester itself. I then get the joy of a fast blast down the East Lancs Road before turning right and going through Astley or, carrying on and turning right at Glazebrook. Adds 6k to the route, but it's worth it to avoid the stoned, drunk or just plain imbecilic cretins driving through the Bury and Bolton outskirtsFat chopper. Some racing. Some testing. Some crashing.
