Softening the feel of bar tape.

I am stuck with some quite thin bar tape and I would like to put something under it to make the bar tops and area behind hoods more comfortable.

One of my bikes has some gel inserts that flatten the tops and have cable run channels underneath.

Does anyone know where to get these, or similar, or a suggestion as how to solve this?

There's also stuff from Specialized - Bar Phat.

Never been keen on it myself - I reckon I am going soft in my old age by trying some 2.5mm tape from Lizardskin - feels massive and horrible!

double wrapping is another option if you already have wrapped bars and want some extra cushioning and not have the patience to remove the existing.
