Looking at fitting a hans Dampf to my trance. I know some people rate them and others don't, what I'm looking for info on is sizing.
How do they measure up, can get the 2.25 at a decent price, is it big for a 2.25?
Anybody compared either that or the 2.35 to a bonty XR4? Using a 2.35 XR4 right now.
Thanks

They're a lot bigger than XR4's. They also wear out in about five minutes if you buy them with a grippy compound and only work in exactly the right conditions.
I wouldn't buy them again.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Heavy, draggy, but loads of grip in the right conditions. They are pretty huge. If my trance still had the granny ring the chain would be hitting the tyre. I never bothered making mine tubeless because I take them off in the summer0

really, a lot bigger? The information on that website would disagree with that statement.0 -
Thanks. From the link they look to be a similar size, the 2.25 might not be the way to go then0

They are massive for a 2.35" tyre and the Bontragers aren't. They won't fit in a lot of xc frames.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Will only be on the front with a set of pikes so clearance shouldn't be too bad0

Their size does mean that they really drag badly. That's the reason I got rid of mine so quickly.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

the XR4 and the hans dampf come up the same size ~60mm wide which is oddly 2.35 so they come up as advertised.0 -
Just had an e-mail from Merlin about a special price on Hans Dampf...

Compares pretty well to http://nextdaytyres.co.uk/details.aspx/ ... B-650B/285 (where I got my Schwalbe fat bike innertubes last week next day after ordering, at time Merlin were out of stock)================

Ordered the 2.35, £28 for the trailstar compound isn't a bad price either I don't think. Will be kept as a spare for now, having trashed one XR4 I had no spare for the front and having a 4 day trip to Wales next month I don't want to be paying trail centre prices if I need another.0

I'm a fan of the Hans Dampf but only as a front tyre, I've found Schwalbe tyres are far too fragile for the rear.YT Wicked 160 ltd
