chainring bolts
I have sram rival compact chainring and getting a strange slight click sound when pedalling. Before seeing to.the bottom bracket i saw a video on what to tighten. What's with the chain ring bolts? My 5mm hex goes right through and out the other side of.both rings. When i put the tool in slightly it allows me to turn the bolts but one of them just keeps turning and turning. The other bolts make a tightening like sound but also keep turning and one bolt in particular takes a 6mm hex and the others 5. Any idea what's going on the bike is only 6 months old

From memory on my MTB X0 chainring you needed a hex key on each side of the chainring one to tighten and one to hold. Can't remember the sizes (5 and 6mm?) but different from each side and a smaller key will go right through.0

Yes - or some of them actually require a chain ring bolt spanner....

Usually used on the inner part of the crankset, with your Allen key used on the outer..0 -

Yes, you just put a hex key in from both sides and tighten. If one of the bolts is behind the crank arm, you need an adapter to fit behind the crank arm.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -
Nothing that's been posted leads me to think that the chainring bolts aren't fine.
Pedal cleat retention mechanism would be my guess as source of clicks.....FFS! Harden up and grow a pair0 -
Grease and refit the seatpost too - I've had creaks develop a number of times now where I suspected BB and it turned out to be the seatpost.0

Could be a stiff chain link? Depends if the click is every pedal revolution or every other....0

Its not all the time, it just comes and goes
I have tightened down all bottle cage screws, tightened the screw under my saddle, put a drop of oil in the pedal springs. Ill try and see if I can tighten the nits on the chainring today. Im convinced its coming from the non drive pedal or crank so Ill see about making sure its on tight too.
If I take the pedals off, what am I looking to clean or grease?Cube Attain SL Disc

Actually
I have looked at a few videos. I dont have a vice either so servicing these cheap pedals seems to be a big ask until I get all the right tools. I paid £20 for the pedals and they are in CRC for £17.50 ill just buy a new pair. Once changed ill tick that one off the list.Cube Attain SL Disc
