    In this case it's the law that's an ass, not those enforcing it.

    You don't need fake ID, just say that you've no idea who was driving the car that you rented/owned, etc, etc. :roll:

    And I'm not entirely sure it's the law that's at fault, mobile phone records, an alibi of alternative location at time of incident, a bit of detective work would all have been viable options to establish sufficient doubt as to whether the renter was indeed driving and give the CPS confidence in pursuing. It's a poor outcome that hopefully the current publicity will help avoid a reoccurrence of.
