I haven't kept up on bike brand and models. I want the lightest possible road bike for the cheapest possible price. Yes, I know they're competing balances.

But if you have some recommendations I'd love to hear them.

I would have a look at Rose. In terms of value for money and low weight they are excellent. Option below comes in at £660 and 8.2kg

Have a look at the Rose x-lite series - if its all about weight, these are seriously light bikes, well kitted out at a very good price. I was going to purchase one myself, but the geometry is just a bit too racy for my back!
  • What's your intended budget? That will be the best indicator.
  • Budget, definitely under £1K. Closer to £500 is much better.

Am looking at 2nd hand too, so at least I have some models to look for.

Dale CAAD8 105 is £600 and dot on 9kg. Not bad considering the wheels on it will be heavy/crap.
Dale Supersix 105 £1000 for 8.2kg again with heavy/crap wheels but an excellent frameset to upgrade in time.
  • Second hand CAAD10. If you can bag a frameset for 300 quid, which is not a big ask, you can probably hit 7-7.5 for a grand with a little luck and care.

You can get a new CAAD10 105 for £899. Sell the standard wheels and put some Zondas on and you'll have a cracking bike for about 1k and weight will likely be under 8k.
  • I've just bought a cannondale synapse alu sora. 9.9 kg I believe but don't quote me, for less than £500.

Chain reaction have Cube carbon frame tiagra jobbies 8.6kg

£629 (including BC discount) and 8.95.

You could shave a few 100 off that with different tyres.

But, really, there's probably a graph here. At some point price and weight intersect or something.

The biggest weight gain per £££££ is wheels and groupset.

I would recommend getting something on ebay second hand.
  • Go fixed gear - Track frame, handbuilt wheels with light rims, one brake - You could probably get it under 6kg if you wanted to within that budget...

Planet x pro carbon frame and forks in the sales, SRAM groupset in the sales, Chinarello carbon wheels.

    Job jobbed.

Kids bikes or small ladies bikes will be very light as they are really small - maybe worth considering if you want the lightest bike for the money.

I think you are going about this the wrong way. Either pick a budget and get the lightest bike for that price or get the lightest bike you can afford and then start sawing bits off it to make it lighter.

You will be amazed what you can save with a dissection of certain bits. Single chain ring on front with no derailleur. Cut back the drops on your handlebars. Drilled out saddle. Cut down seatpost to ludicrously dangerous length.
  • LOL - like some of the comedy responses but some of the other responses have given me good models to look-out for especially 2nd hand. All your collective, distilled expertise is greatly appreciated.
