Im looking for a cost effective and user friendly option to collect/show data during my ride.
It should also be easy to upload the data to the mac.
I was given an old Garmin Edge 500 from a friend but it won't connect to the Mac due to cable issues (i think)
Also, I am using a Stages Power meter and HR monitor. Only problem is the Stages App does not show
anything except Power and Cadence.
Question, is there a free App for IOS that shows the below on the one screen?
- Cadence
- Power/Watts
- HR
- Speed
If not I guess my only option is to buy a Garmin?

Are you saying that your phone with Strava app connects to your Stages gear during your ride? Didn't know you could do that.
I would have thought that you'd want a head unit with ANT+ capability to capture your data during the ride. You'd be looking at a Garmin (anything apart from the 200) , or similar from other company. If you've got the power meter, might aswell go the step and get a decent head unit. Most folk have the head unit first, then get the power meter.0 -
No I haven't tried Strava with Stages because it requires you to pay for a premium account to get all the bells n whistles.
If stages just added HR and Speed i think I would be set.0 -
Is your HR monitor a bluetooth one, if not I don't think it'll connect to your phone which ever app you use. When u say your Garmin 510 won't connect to your Mac, is it because you don't have the right cable or u connect it an it's not recognised by your Mac. Surely it'd be cheaper to try and sort out the problem with the 510 than buy a new Garmin.'Hello to Jason Isaacs'0

I have both Garmin and Polar HR monitors. The polar works well with their free app on the iPhone. I also use it with Sufferfest for indoor training sessions. haven't tried the garmin with the iphone as yet. As you prob figured the Stages and polar HR connect to the iPhone without an issue. The stages has built in cadence with the crank.0

Have you tried cyclemeter. The data displayed can be easily configured to your exact needs.
It also connects well with strava.0 -
I have Cyclometer but I don't see any option for a Power meter. Is it possible to add it?0

I use IPBike with an old Sony Experia ArcS that I bought for £30 off ebay. I also bought a Topeak drybag and a high capacity battery for the phone. I think total outlay was something like £30 + £15 + £5 + £5 (phone, drybag, battery, app license). This has worked flawlessly for me for around the last 18 months (6K).
I get around 10 hours out of the battery with screen on, GPS enabled, ANT+ tracking of speed, cadence and HR, don't have a power meter though IPBike does support this.
Functionality wise this is somewhere between a Garming 500 and 800 (doesn't do live route updates which I think the Garmin 800 might, need to load the route pre-ride, missing temp sensor + barometer/altimeter though these are available with a better phone).0 -

I found with my edge 500 that the cheaper cables (ones from the pound shop mainly) wouldn't transfer data, it would charge the device but not connect to the computer. Might be worth trying different cables.www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0 -

Is there a Garmin specific cable?0 -
There are no doubt Garmin cables. Certainly they come with one in the box. As far as I know though they are just standard USB - mini USB cables.
That said there are cables out there that only supply power rather than both power and data. Often marketed as fast charging.0 -

Have you managed to pair the power meter by adding it like any other device ? I don't have one myself but the same principles should work as per HR / Cadence / RFLKT etc
Then, It should the be as easy as adding another display page for the power readings as follows.
enter the settings>stopwatch>pages>edit>then select from the power options provided or set up the screen to your own preferences using the custom screens.
Hope that helps

If you've got a stages pm I'm sure you can afford to get a new garmin to go with it....500 and 510 can be had cheap if you look around.0

I will try to locate a different cable and see if that work. I have tried the Ant stick without success (to computer) and the USB direct.
After looking at the Garmin 510 & 520 if the cable route doesn't work then I guess I will look at them as a last resort.0
