Hello all, I'm trying to find a replacement rear wheel (rim brakes) to replace my previous budget touring wheel which keeps falling out of true.

I'm struggling to find a reasonably priced, high spoke count wheel. I've come across the likes of Open Pro rims, which look well suited, but is costing in excess of £100 just for the rear. I can only really find handbuilt options.

So what are my options for a <£100, 36h rear wheel which will suffice for a bit of fair weather cycle-camping?

  • Have you try Stan No Tube, I have one 28 spokes, still going strong after 2.5 yrs. Rim only cost between £50-£60, use your old hub and keep on riding :)

Wheels are more expensive if you don't buy as pairs.

There is a fashion for wider rims to better suit wider tyres recently. Open pro are a fairly narrow internal diameter rim. So it depends on what size tyres you like using for touring & what your frame has clearance for.

Rose seem pretty good value for a cheap rd rear wheel.

Also is it 130 or 135 rear, & what speed freehub.. I asumme it isn't 11, some wheels aren't 11 compatible...

    Light touring probably 130mm.....

Hi moonbike - that's exactly the sort of wheel I was trying to find. I didn't come across Rose when I was googling around.

A little more info: its just to whack on my road bike to carry my one man tent and a couple of panniers. I run 25s, which is the widest I can fit. In terms of freehub, I only require 10 speed but I wouldn't be averse to being 11-speed ready for the future.
