Ball Bearing Grease?!

Hi all,
So this weekend I'm going to be continuing building an old bike which has ball bearings in the forks. The question is, do I need grease for the bearings or can I just replace them without adding any grease? As I don't have bearing grease and it seems stupid to buy it just for this one occasion is there any alternative I can use that I may already have or is it fine to insert them dry?
Thanks in advance

You need to grease bearings. Tube of grease cost well under £5. Most types of automotive general purpose grease will suffice if you have any.0

You have to use grease, i find waterproof marine grease is a good bet as lasts ages and doesn't just turn to brown gloop after a while. Its not expensive and wont go off so you may as well buy at as it may come in handy in the future.Framebuilder
