Brake adjustment for wider rim
Hi
I'm about to order Fulcrum Racing Quattro LG wheels to replace stock Btwin wheels on my Triban 540, just wanted to check my assumption that I should be able to barrel adjust my Calipers for the slightly wider rim . Or will it need something more complex?
Thanks

Brake adjustment between 19-20 mm rims and 22-23 mm is no more than a few turns on the cable adjusters.0

When I moved from Open pro rims to Archetypes I had to let out a little cable and drop the brake shoes down almost to the very lowest allowed on the calliper slots (SRAM Force). It works fine and only took a few minutes to set up but it couldn't have been done with barrel adjusters.0

Well , I only have Campagnolo brakes and the adjusters can take the slack easily (and even more)
Of course the first time it's possible that you need to loose the cable, but once done it only need the adjusters.
Brake shoe height should not change with different rims....0 -
I found the same when I fitted a set of 23 mm wide wheels, I had to loosen the cable clamp to allow the caliper (Ultegra), to open up sufficient to allow the wheel and tyre to pass through. Without doing this the W&T would just about go through the caliper with the QR in the open position, however trying to close the QR would lock the pad onto the wheel.0

I can see the logic in that but I did need to change mine for the wider rim. I didn't measure anything to check but it looked like it was because once the two blocks sat further apart the arc they moved through (from being open to touching the rim) changed and I definitely had to lower them by a few mm to get them to end up flush with the rim. Odd I know but I seed it with me own eyes - honest!0 -
Thanks for the info / advice. I have Shimano long reach calipers on my bike, in case that has any bearing. So sounds like worst case I might have to let out a little cable, that sounds fine.0

Or I go with the Sciroccos at the same rim width as current wheels and avoid the faff
But I fancied trying the wider rim with my 25mm tyres.0 -
At 25 mm you have a small but noticable advantage in riding lower pressure and still having good handling in corners with the wider rims.
The hassle with adjusting the brakes is minimal...0
