On One or Whyte? Best £800 hardtail?

Hello

I'm looking to spend around £800 on replacing my 15 year old Specialised bike with something to use on local trails, bridle paths, plus a bit of road inbetween.

Have been steered toward On One and Whyte as good brands to go for in terms of good specs for your money... which should I pick? Any others should I consider?

Many thanks!
Mark

On One are great value for money and bombproof, but Whyte are more refined with more compliance and better for longer rides

13 or Boardman from Halfords (yes, I know - but they are great bikes!) or BTwin from Decathlon. Invariably will be a better spec than either the On One or the Whyte.

Mark - I have tried to reply to your PM but for some reason it's getting wedged in the outbox. As soon as it frees up you'll see it!

That's because it stays as being in the outbox until it's read......that's how you know it's read!
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Links to specific bikes would help ...

I have an OnOne 45650B which I love, and which was very well-spec'd at the time I bought it (2 years ago) ... Its my only MTB, and does most things I ask of it, its fun, confidence-inspiring and bomb-proof! Its quite a crude, hard ride, but spec some 2.4 rubber, and that takes the edge off.

OnOne/Planet X generally offer very good value for money.

Would I buy another? Quite possibly, but would also look at other 'hardcore HT's', including Whyte, Bird etc etc ...

We're moving away from what the OP wanted. He wanted something that offered a good entry into MTB - more than a hybrid, less than a hardcore HT.

He is the perfect Boardman customer. The Pro is on offer at £750 at Halfords at the moment which is perfect for what he wants and also significantly better spec'd than offerings from either names he mentioned at that price point.

You are on the right track if you're after another HC offering. Rookie is right with the Parkwood, you are right with your choices.
