bought a 2nd hand Dahon Cadenza XL folding MTB 13 months ago, i have recently been going through spokes like a champ and getting them replaced and the wheel trued monthly, today i took it into the new LBS for a service and rear wheel rebuild (hoping some DT Swiss spokes might help me a bit)
long story short, the Alfine hub is shot to bits (i have long expected as such and it drops gears all the time) and they guy said its a few hundred quid for parts and labour on top. as i cant afford this, and its an internal hub anyway i'm hoping to make it a single speed
i have since been told its a centre lock rotor - 26" rims (non QR) and i need as many spokes as possible (fat bastard) and i have no idea if its possible to convert.
i HAD hoped that i could get a cheapy mtb wheel, chuck on the wiggle conversion kit for £8 and that would be it.

Yes it is, it is probably however most economical to buy a decent enough rear wheel and disc rather than splurging on a new hub, complete set of spokes (number to match the rim) and a build which would probably cost about £75.
Any geared hub can be converted to single speed using a single speed conversion.

Or just a rear for £54

Go for it, that's what I did to my winter commuter. Velosolo make some great bits for fixed or single speeding
