Hello all,

Some very nice human being has decided to steal my bike, so I am now bikeless :(

I had a Cannondale Trail 6 that I had done some upgrades on (New rockshox on the front and some other minor changes) - All in all I was pretty happy with it.

However, it's time to look for something new.

Any recommendations for £500 - £1,000?

Many thanks

Voodoo Bizango is circa £600 and very very highly rated.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    More clues please!

    £500 - £1000 covers a lot of bikes.

Perhaps listing three things you liked and three things you disliked about your Trail 6 would help?
Viscount Grand Touring - in bits
    Trek ZX6500 - semi-retired
    HP Velotechnik Spirit
    Brompton M6

Thanks for the replies so far...

I definitely want to stick to a 29er. The only issues I had when I first got it were the Suntour fork was awful so upgraded to the RockShox Reba and changed to some decent metal pedals. Other than that I thought the frame was rock solid, brakes pretty decent and generally a good bike.

I feel like there are some good deals around at the moment on the other Cannondales particularly on Pauls Cycles

    Cannondale Trail 2 (29) - £629 (RRP £999)
    Cannondale Trail 1 (29) - £699 (RRP £1099)

These would both be an upgrade from the Trail 6 I had in terms of components.

    Thanks Again

Save everyone looking and provide the links.

The Trail 6 has a pretty aweful fork as standard, the fact it's Suntour is coincidental as Rockshox make some pretty aweful forks as well.

I'm not set on a Cannondale, so if there are some better specs for the money I would be interested - Thanks

I was very tempted with the Boardman pro MTB - the 2014 model is now end of life and on offer for about £750. The only niggle I had was the press fit BB and quite a few comments about noise from the BB. The new one - the 2016 model will be out very soon and I guess that it will cost£1000. This is worth looking at. However I did buy an ebay Bizango instead of the Boardman and am happy with that.

Neither are those are bad for the money, the 1 doesn't really offer much over the 2 to my mind.

The tyres are hopeless in any sort of mud though....

    Thanks for the replies.

I noticed on my old Cannondale the tyres were shocking in the mud. Any recommendations?

Yes, don't cycle in the mud.

Fitted Specialized Storm Control to my 29er, seem pretty good, rated as one of the best 29" mud tyres, also only £27 each from CycleSurgery if you search for their 10% discount code.
