I have a new PF30 frameset coming soon, and a Rotor 3D+ chainset that I'd like to fit.

I'm trying to work out the best BB to get for this combination.
So far, I think the Rotor 4630 BB is the only option, but I don't know what else is out there.
(this is my first PF30 frameset - all my other kit has been 68mm threaded).

Do you know if there's something like a Praxis option, or other well - designed kits? I'd like to get a decent one, and don't want to be faffing about chasing creaks and odd sized bearing replacements

  • Id go for this one:

The cups can be held inplace with loctite to prevent creaks. The bearings can be replaced with bb30's without removing the cups.

I think there is a pf30 bottom bracket with a threaded part to it to help keep it in place and prevent creeks but its pricey! I don't think praxis make a bottom bracket that will fit a 30mm spindle

Surely any PF30 BB will work with those cranks. You'll need to use spacers to take up the extra exposed axle length. My 3D+ for Merlin cycles came with a selection of external axle spacers for the various frame types. Weirdly, if you were wanted to fit 24mm axled cranks to a PF30 frame the Rotor 4624 does that job, taking care of the extra axle length that protrudes either side of the PF30 frame shell without the need for big spacers. I don't think the Rotor 4630 does that, as it's not designed to work exclusively with wide spaced 30mm axle like the 3D+ and SRAM S900 series. It also works for normal short axled 30 such as SRAM Red., hence the need for spacers on BB30 Evo cranksets such as yours.

According to this (ignore the power2max bit) http://www.power2max.asia/download/Crankset/05.pdf you will need an 11.5mm spacer on either side*.

  • THanks both.

I'm new to the 30mm axle / PF30 thing, and wasn't sure whether I could use #any# BB30 bottom bracket, with suitable spacers.

Life was oh so simple with shimano-square taper 68mm eng threaded frames.
