Hi
I'm looking at getting a new bikes in the next week or two. I have about £1200 to spend but at a push I could goto £1300.
I have seen 2 bike I quite like the look off but unsure which to go for. I have recently taken cycling back up after a few years away from it. I have also entered the Ride London this year and plan to do more sportives as time allows.
I currently use a Trek 7.6FX which I've had a few years.

So I was looking at a Cannondale Synapse but have also seen a Fuji Sportif that looks good also.

So what is peoples opinions on the best one to go for?

I'm quite a big guy, 6ft 5in and at the moment about 105kg.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Graeme

  • I would edge towards the Cannondale out of the two.

Have a look at the BMC Teammachine ALR01 - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bmc/teammachine-alr01-ultegra-2016-road-bike-ec116691. You could even go for the 105 version and have some spare cash to upgrade the wheels, tyres and brakes!

However, if you want to grab yourself something that's excellent value for money, have a look at the Trek Domane - it was £1700! http://www.evanscycles.com/products/trek/domane-43-2015-road-bike-ec068736 Here you get a carbon frame with Shimano 105 so a decent groupset paired with an excellent frame. The Domane is Trek's comfort bike (equivalent to Cannondale's Synapse) and has an Iso Speed decoupler which is a sort of micro-suspension.

I see that both your bikes you're looking at have disc brakes - I think you'll get a lot more value for money by sticking with rim as you pay a lot for the hydraulic disc brakes on your bikes and this puts pay to the frame. If you had more to spend, I'd say discs would be good but value for money-wise, you'll get more with rim.

    Hi

Thanks for your reply. Both those bikes look good, not sure if the BMC would be large enough for me as the size guide states upto 6ft 4 and I'm quite long in the legs.

Yes I had really only been looking at disc brakes as I'm am a all weather cyclist and a couple of months a go I had a very close call in the wet when my rim brakes did not work, so was thinking of discs for that reason.

It's given me more to think about and now making it harder :?

I was originally thinking the cannondale as they did have a 2015 model reduced but that has now sold as I wasn't ready to buy yet, then on searching for options I seen the Fuji which has shimano disk breaks and 105 components. I was told that the shimano hydraulic brake were better than the SRAM which is fitted to the cannondale. But as I've been away from bikes for years I don't know which one is the best now.

    Cheers
