Serviced my lower legs today. Foam rings were a little dirty so I simply cleaned them in isopropyl alcohol but then just inverted the rings almost inside out so the cleaner side now is being reused.
Jesus what a genius.

Was going to do that but mine were hard and crumpled to bits.
I'd have washed the rings thoroughly in soapy water to remove the debris before rinsing in alcohol, the primary aim is to remove the debris it's meant to trap and not the fork oil per se, but as long as they were as clean as they could be its just a different way to the same ends.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
They clean up really easily. I wouldn't use isopropyl alcohol just because you can't be sure of getting all of it out of the foam before soaking in lower lube (I use TF Tuned lower lube mix) and refitting.
If you just get a little oil on them and then wring them out by squashing them between sheets of tissue it flushes out the dirt, gets them like new and no risk of getting isopropyl alcohol in them when you reassemble and possibly break down the fresh lube.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Was a bit worried they would misshapen or ripped with a thorough clean. They weren't too bad really. Ill change them properly next year. But I shall take your advice(s) on board and do this next time round! It matters not, win or lose, it's how you ride the bike0

propanol evaporates fairly quickly0 -
Thats what I do until they do need replacing (excluding the isopropyl), pre and post wash in water then let them sit in some fork oil and squeeze the excess off. Good as new.0

Not when absorbed in foam it won't.
Sponge type materials are used to capture vapours from volatile fluids in extraction systems. Also a common method used to prevent volatile fluids loss through evaporation in process systems.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
