Ideal van for transporting a couple of 29ers?

As per the title.
Got a couple of 29ers (Surlys), and need to just bung 'em in the van without taking the front wheels off.
Anyone managed to pull this off in the small vans, i.e. Berlingo, Combo, etc. Kinda thinking of going for a mid-sized one (Scudo, Dispatch, etc).

Yep, in my 2003 Fiat Doblo, I've removed the single rear seat and I fold the double up, had my 29er and my 26er in there with loads of room to spare. I have the dog guard which folds up into this roof and just bungee the saddles to the dog guard. Only downside is that it's embarrassing to drive but for £1000, 50+ mpg, 100 bhp, air con, car insurance (don't get stung for commercial and you can transfer no claims across) and 3 years of perfect reliability I just can't justify getting rid of it! Only bought it as a stop gap when my old van went bang.

I find this perfectly adequate for transporting three bikes and riders. Gets to the trails quicker than a van as well.
Only 30mpg though but 307bhp and 450 ft lb.

How do you work that out??? You don't know how fast I drive

I hit 140mph+ this morning, across the Somerset levels and didn't drop much below a ton quite a few miles. That's probably getting there quicker than a van. Getting the 155mph limiter turned off soon as well.
Bike straight on the roof is just as easy as in the back of a van plus you get the bonus of not having to drive a van.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

If you wanna drive fast, go to a track day (why else get the limiter turned off?)
Can you explain the reason why the law of the land does not apply to you?0 -

Is that meant to impress me?
This Doblo would piss all over your Mondeo

This is better, does those unbearable climbs with impeccable ease no matter the trail, Fort william uphill? No prob !!!
Would be bit of a bugger when it rains tho.watched Engine Addict on Quest when the guy built one of these with a Volvo T5 engine in it,he got 720bhp out of it0 -

Speed limiter is not a legal requirement and I'm off to the Nurbergring in the summer.
To be honest I thought I was only a little bit over a ton until I looked down at the speedo. Just a bit of fun on deserted roads.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Why Mondeo? I sold my Mondeo last year and replaced it with a Jaguar.
Plus, just look at that thing, it's a van. Put a big engine in it and you've got a fast van but still a van. Polishing a turd.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Ford Tansit connect if you can cope with being call Post Man Pat.
Don't see what RockmonkeySc has said for these comments, but I do like fast two wheeled toys too.
When are you heading over to nordschleife RM?
The ultimate bike transporter for me would be a T5 van, RS5 av ante or more adventurous rust bucket VW panel bus. Seen one today that was clear coated with the old shop signs and rust under. Retro se**ness.0 -

Going over in July. Done it before on my old ZX7RR several years ago. Great fun but the locals are insane and pass you with 2mm space at 170mph on the straights.
I absolutely have to beat Clarksons 10 minute lap he did in the S Type.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Not done it on the bike before, have done it in an MR2 Spyder years ago. Locals are insane but it is their back yard.
Would love to take the M5 taxi when I go again but no plans made yet.
Hats off to you it is a time to beat.
Opening myself up here, but I don't understand people who want to go fast on two wheels with leg power but hate speed else where.0 -

Who said anything about hating speed? :? :?:
Doing 140 on a public road just isn't cool, bragging about it even less so.
Sorry, my mistake, the XF shares more with the Ford Transit than the Mondeo.....so you actually do drive a van0 -
Used to drive a van, but then found estates.
Not promoting speed as it can be dangerous and I have had my run in with the law previously.
But a quiet lonely drivers road in the early hours of the morning? I doubt anyone keeps to the limit.
I agree there is a time and place, track days. But sometimes.........
I can't comment on a jaaag as never driven one.0 -

Nope, it was developed after Jaguar split with Ford. It shares more with the latest generation Maseratti (gearbox, drive train and chassis parts) than anything else. The engine is shared with Land Rover but with lightened pistons and crank plus twin turbos and an extra 100bhp.
The only Jaguar to share anything with Ford was the old X Type which shared just sub frames and suspension, also used in the final Volvo T5. Good platform which was known for excellent dynamics.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Would explain one main use of T5s, planted dynamics.
Curious, what would you class as a public road? I could be in the remote wilderness of Scotland and have a sneeze and well.......0 -

Speed limiter is not a legal requirement.....
Indeed not. But don't quote 'legal requirements' at me when you're bragging about driving at 140mph. You can't pick and choose the rules that apply to you. When I last looked it was a requirement to drive within the speed limit (check T&Cs of your licence)
I'm not some crusading, speed hating angel. However, there's no circumstances where >140 mph is even remotely safe on a public road
Are we supposed to be impressed by your big, fast, powerful car and your ability to drive it? Or perhaps you're just compensating for your shortcomings elsewhere?
Grow up before you hurt somebody0 -

You have seriously never seen where such speeds can be achieved on the public roads?0 -

I have seen higher on the autobahn.
Not advocating speed, as I believe there is a time and place for it, ie track day.
But I am sure everyone has had that lead foot feeling before and not released just how fast they were traveling.0 -

Ok, glad we can agree.
Did anyone mention they were speeding in a 60mph zone? If so I missed that. In a a 60mph zone I would say you are asking for trouble if you are doing double the limit. But again some 60mph zones are in the middle of nowhere with no residential population. So again there is a time and place.
Don't get me wrong in built up areas I hate anyone speeding, but it happens day in day out. Even with Cameras, people just race between them.
But I am sure people are aware of roads that have no residential places and a 60mph limit and have a lead foot with caution?
Slightly going off topic now, but as I said before, there is a time and a place for it. If you do it all the time in any area then I think you are a fool.
On the other hand, I know some roads at the national limit, with no people occupying the area and quiet roads with no street lights and you would struggle to travel at the speed limit.
In some ways the highway code is outdated.
But again as I said earlier there is a time and a place for it.0 -

Hitting 140 was unintentional, I thought I was nearer 100. Just kept my boot down a bit too long I guess. It felt surprisingly smooth and quite and strangely civilised.
It was definitely too fast for a UK road though, if I got caught I wouldn't even attempt to defend myself, I'd just hand Overy licence. As it is though, I have never even had a single point on my licence in twenty years because I don't speed in stupid places.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
