I am sure this has probably been asked but as a family we have 9 bikes I need to try and store in my garage and also use it for other stuff as well.

What would you suggest is the best way to store my bikes. We have a variety or road, mountain and race BMX.

Thanks

Simon

I have a small(ish) shed and needed to store five bikes in some sort of orderly and compact way.

I very securely bolted a wooden baton to the wall, screwed in 5 bike hooks and I was finished. Cost was next to nothing, it didn't take long and it has worked perfectly ever since. Alternating the bikes bars up and then bars down used the space really well.

I have since wrapped a bit of pipe lagging round the hooks I use with my carbon wheels, but I think this is probably completely unnecessary.

I used hooks like these (cheaper hooks are available!)...

    This was the end result....

You could use a Scaffold Pole across the width of the garage and hang them off that by the handle bars, similar result to the photo E17Blade posted.

The set up I have in place is two of these mounted on the left hand long wall, with 2 bikes on each (4 total) and 4 bikes directly underneath them leaning against the wall. Therefore my 8 bikes take up the width of 2 bikes, right down the side of the garage.

If I ever clear enough space in my garage I'm thinking of something similar to above - but maybe leave a bit of space in between and you can have a few on the floor space.

I like the look of these minimalist bike clamps...

I've got a couple of clugs in my garage and I quite like them, but beware that you can't raise a bike off the floor with them. It just clips the front wheel and the rear wheel has to rest on the ground (or something solid - I guess you could put a shelf in or something if you really wanted space underneath).

Most of mine are hung upside-down on cheap B&Q hooks.

Genesis Datum Gravel Bike, Pacentis (again).

  • Wall hooks is probably what you need. This is my garage, I have 9 bikes up there.

  • Can anyone give a bit more detail as to how to secure to the wall please?

Specially, do the bikes touch the floor at all or is all the weight on the hook? Or do you place the hook so it shares the load with the floor?
I've only had a bit of a play with this idea and when I pinned the wheel to the wall the bike just wanted to roll away from the wall and the handle bars twisted to allow the hook to slip off.

The pics posted above look ideal and it's exactly how I want to store my bikes.

what an awesome looking garage. it's tidy yet functional and looks good. unfortunately i'm a hoarder so mine will never look this good.
  • Cheers! A place for everything and everything in it's place.

The bikes are hung off the ground so the hooks take all the weight. This way gravity helps get all the bikes straight vertically. Hooks into raw plugs that are into breeze blocks.
I've alternated facing the bikes up then down so the handlebars do not compete for the same width, hence greater density.
Easy enough to get off the wall, use the knee on the seat (or bars) to push up, then unhook.
