11 speed cassette on new hub - lots of side movement

Hi all



Brand new hope pro 4 hub and new 11*42 xt m8000 cassette.

Loads of side to side (rocking) movements on every ratio. Being an 11 speed, i dont need a spacer at the front of the hub. Visually it all looks alright with the gaps between the ratios the same. I'm pretty sure it's just 2 spacers and the other ones using the lips. Also the last ratio fits perfectly on the end - so when i come to tighten it, i expect it to be tight...but no matter how tight, the thing moves all over the place.

There's no play in the hub. I've taken the cassette off a few times to check if there's anything obvious i'm doing wrong - but each time, the same?

Any ideas what i'm doing wrong? I presume there shouldn't be play in the cassette? Well not this much - i estimate 3mm play.

Is the lock nut screwed right in? If it is and you've done the rest right then you'll need a spacer so it all tightens up.

yes, screwed in tight. I was specifically told that i dont need a spacer if it's 11 speed. Guess i just bung one in and try - but won't be a few days then unfortunately.

Is it a road Pro 4? 11 speed road freehub bodies are longer.

The new Hope Pro 4 hub is designed around an 11 speed Shimano road freehub body. For 8, 9, 10 and 11 speed mountain bike cassettes you need to fit the supplied spacer.
