New Voodoo Canzo or Second hand Higher Spec MTB

Hi , advise needed.
You probably get this question alot .

Whats best to do, buy a new fully suspension mtb , something like a Voodoo Canzo £799 http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/mountain-bikes/voodoo-canzo-full-suspension-mountain-bike
or buy a second hand , say 5 year old mtb for a similar amount .

Currently ride a very retro Marin nail trail hardtail, and I want to get into mounting biking more this year and realise what I have is not great for the trails when they get more downhill and technical (I ride leith hill area).
I realise I'm not into XC but like just messing around having fun on the trails, single track , and need something that will be easier on the rough terrain, the odd jump , small drop off etc.
Also I don't go often enough to warrant spending over £1000 on a bike at the moment, I would be lucky to go once a week.
It also seems to me the spec on these entry level fs mtb's are so much better than 5-10 years ago for the same money, am I right in saying that?

Any advise would be appreciated.

  • My mate bought a Canzo a couple of months back when I bought a cannondale trigger 4 for 999.
I'm not sure how it compares to other £800 full suspension bikes but I wouldn't buy one.
It's front end is really heavy. Doesn't feel balanced.
The tyres don't have much grip. The brakes can't really be used with one finger.
It's very bouncy and hard work on hills.
That said. It feels like it could take a huge amount of abuse. It's like a tank. It will last forever and therefor the wife will never let you upgrade ;)
I'm not sure the second hand market is good value when you can get great bikes like mine or a calibre bossnut for £1000.

Thanks, good to have an opinion from someone who has ridden a Canzo as I can't find any reviews on the latest model, the older ones seem to have a better spec too.
And yes seen the reviews on the Calibre Bossnut ,looks good. can't find the Trigger 4 for £999, where did you get it .
As you said it does seem that you can get decent spec bikes for around a £1000 making buying second hand seem not so attractive unless its only a couple of years old and in mint condition .
  • Paul cycles had deals on the remaining 2015 triggers. Think they still have trigger 3 available but at 1250.
