Garmin 1000 Backlight Timeout

I've had a Garmin 1000 for a few months. I don't know whether this has been happening forever, but I've only noticed it during night-time riding and commuting.
No matter what setting I put the Backlight Timeout to, for example "15 seconds" or "30 seconds", the backlight stays on for the requisite amount of time, goes out for perhaps half a second, then simply comes on again. This happens for a whole ride, meaning the backlight is effectively permanently on with consequent effect on battery life.
Does anyone else get this? Or is there some setting I'm missing? It's got the latest firmware. Any help/advice appreciated.

The backlight on mine stays on all the time too, not had any issues with battery life, seems good for about 10 hours which is longer than i'll need at this time of year. Have you set it to night mode (or auto) so it goes black with white writing? that might help?www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0

Yes I do have it on auto day/night mode, and I also get ~10 hours out of it. But how much longer would it last without the backlight always on? I'm sure what's supposed to happen is that it should stay off until I touch the screen. I might contact Garmin about it and see if it's a bug or if somehow it's a "feature".Dolan Titanium ADX 2016

Unless you are doing over 10 hours I wouldn't worry about it.
Have you set the brightness? You can get it to auto adjust or just set it lowwww.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0
