Hi all,
Looking for a bit of advice if possible.

A friend and I are lucky enough to be heading to the Pyrenees for a weeks riding in early July (and hoping to catch a stage of the Tour whilst there).

I've found a couple of suggestions of places to stay (namely Bagneres-de-Luchon and Argeles-Gazost, both of which seem very suitable), but prior to looking at seriously booking accomodation, I was wondering whether any of the BR crowd have either any pros or cons for the above 2 locations, or know of any other hidden gems that are an ideal place to stay.

We're flying in to Toulouse so no more than a couple of hours drive would be ideal.

For context, we're keen to be based within easy (cyclable) reach of all/most of the major cols (Tourmalet, Peyresourde, Aubisque etc) and so ideally are somewhere close to the edge of the Pyrenees range.

Similarly, if anyone has any routes they'd like to share, they would be gratefully accepted.

Many thanks in advance
Cam

My top tip would be to go in late June. This is a nice place to stay if you like rabbits as there are ones running wild all over the site, fluffy pet type ones. Located in Argeles-Gazost.

A two bedroom cabin can be good value at 52 euro a night in June plus 10% off if there are just two of you. In early July it increases to 110 euros a night.

  • The girlfriend and I stayed with Rob and Rachel at Les Sorbiers in Bareges last July which is at the bottom of the tourmalet. http://www.pyreneescycling.co.uk Can't rate them highly enough. Rob guided a group of four of us up various nearby cols each day whilst Rachel kept us well fed on our return. There is no pressure to do the guided rides as some went off and did their own thing. Worth checking out and very reasonably priced too.
