Help - Top gear problems.

Hi,
I'm new here and thought I would join because I've been trying to find a good bike for a while. Recently I bought a Teman and was told it was a good bike. It rides well, but the the gears will slip when attempting to go to the top gear.
Essentially what happens is the front gear cassette requires a lot of effort to get into to shift from gear 2 to gear 3. Basically when cycling I have to hold the gear and peddle really hard, while I'm peddling it's in between the gears and eventually shifts into the top gear.
Basically the gear transition from 2 to 3 isn't smooth and it get's stuck in-between the 2 for a little while and after a number of rotations of the gear it will eventually shift to the top gear.
I bought the bike recently but cant return it and the shop I bought it from doesn't see it as an issue and strongly recommended the bike.
I'm not particularly new to cycling when I'm shifting gear it shouldn't be so hard to get it to shift. Basically the chain is first between the brackets sliding and eventually after applying enough force I'm able to get to the top gear. My last bike didn't have this issue and only cost me £80, I've spent £300 on this bike and it's a real issue. I thought I was making a nice investment so really want to resolve the issue.
Basically
HELLLLPPP....
I'm very reliant on my bike for uni.

It's quite likely there isn't anything wrong with the bike. I just needs adjusting, that's fairly common with new bikes with new cables etc.
However that sounds like a pretty terrible bike store, every one I know of, including the chain stores, will give you a 'service' a few weeks into ownership one of the things being to fix exactly this sort of problem. So if what you're saying is true - never go back there!
You can fix it yourself, however I would strongly recommend in the first instance taking it into a different local bike shop, this will be a fairly simple problem for them to sort out. My local shop for example I've had issues with the front derailleur which seemed impossible, put it up on the stand, a few twiddles and all fixed in 30 second - no charge!0
