So....got a 50 quid wiggle voucher for Christmas, but what to buy?

I have a 6 month old Triban 540, changes / extras - mini pump, Michelin pro4 endurance tyres, topeak saddle bag, shimano a530 pedals, Elite bottle cage with 700ml bottle. I also have - workstand, toolkit, gel shorts, 2 long sleeve cycling tops, base layers, shimano spd shoes, track pump, a basic rain jacket and a wireless cycle computer.

So.... any ideas what I could buy from Wiggle for £50 or less? :)

Had the same 'problem' myself recently. Ended up buying a Sportful hotpack gilet for just under the 50

Looking at your list I'd also consider a co2 inflator and cartridges. Invaluable in winter if you pick up punctures.

Some winter bib tights, or another long sleeve jersey. They have some really good own brand ones.

Did you forget to say helmet or are you a non believer? Kask 50NTA for £50?

Thanks, I do have a helmet but it's a cheapo nicked off my son. My own helmet is Bell, circa 1995.

Should add I'm not a commuter, I'm a fitness / fun evening and weekend cyclist. So if weather is cr*p i defer. Did first sportive last year and looking to do a couple this year.

    5800 calipers for the bike.

Or windproof soft-shell jersey (three pockets is a jersey, even if called jacket etc.) for you.

Bike has shimano "no name" calipers, would I notice a big difference if I changed?

I upgraded from Tektro ones (which I had no real issues with) and noticed a big difference.

I also have Swissstop pads (they were in the Tektro's too) which I would recommend doing also when you need new pads.
5800's look way nicer too. V chunky and pivot equally (like direct mount) as opposed to off center as yours currently do.

A decent windproof/water resistant outer layer (like the Hot Pack 5 that has been suggested) would have been my third suggestion.
Guessing the one you have is probably not breathable or very fitted/close fitting?

You don't mention having any bib tights so how about the DHB ASV ones which are currently down to £48.

Gloves (gel padded), spare tube, new pads as suggested (shimano ultegra/dura ace ones?)

Good suggestion, but Santa brought me a pair of Michelin pro4 endurance tyres for Xmas.

Re brake suggestions..... my triban 540 is tiagra flat bar, I'm in the process of converting to drop bar but fitting with 4600 shifters. Looking at the description for the 5800 calipers on wiggle, it suggests I need 5800 shifters or above?

Check the brake drop first; measure from the centre pivot to the pads.

5800 brakes will be fine on 4600 shifters. They're awesome brakes for the money and were used by a whole load of pro-teams on the Paris-Roubaix (I think) for the improved clearance around larger tyres (they removed the 105 stickers though).

Thanks for brake updates, very tempting. The spec for my bike says current brakes are long pull, I'll check the drop measurement as suggested though and compare v 5800 spec.

Thanks for all the great advice, after a day of pondering I am going for the 5800 brakes. Glad I asked, I wouldn't have thought about brakes otherwise

With bikes it's more of the latter

Did that this morning and worried I may now have an issue.

From centre pivot to where the pads currently sit is approx 60mm. Pads are as low as they can go. Wiggle says drop for 6800 calipers is 49mm. Would this be the max drop or the minimum?

I've decided, I'm putting the vouchers towards a set of Fulcrum Racing Quattro LGs :)

I'm hoping for these from my wifey for my birthday. I'll probably end up with a "nice smart shirt" or something. Hopefully the price will still be good in a few weeks time and I can use my paypal stash to buy a set.
