Just in the process of having some 28 spoke wheels built using Dura Ace 9000 hubs and Open Pro Rims with Sapim CX Ray spokes, but the CX Rays retail price for a box of 20 spokes are £50, is there an alternative spoke which is just as good as the CX Rays in weight and strength.
My local bike shop which is building the wheels said I would need 4 boxes of CX Rays to build the wheels.

Bladed spokes would be a waste on a non aero rim like an open pro in any case. If you are happy with round, butted spokes instead, Sapim do spokes like that and so do ACI. Much cheaper than cx rays.

Any reason why you want Open Pro btw? They are a pretty outdated rim, you can get much better for similar prices.

I agree with Bondurant, bladed spokes wouldn't offer anything, but cost, to that build. I quite like Open Pro rims, and with DA hubs you should end up with a very nice set of wheels. I'd be tempted to go with DT Swiss competition spokes, or revolution if you want to save a few gramms. Which ever spokes you go for, if you buy four boxes of 20, make sure you get the unused spokes back from the LBS, you may need them one day. Some retailers sell the spokes individually, or in smaller units, so it might be worth buying the number you need (plus a couple of spares for each length), rather than getting the LBS to sell you 24 spokes you don't need.

How about Sapim D-light? Not aero but light and decent strength.

What kind of spokes do Shimano use on their Dura Ace C24 wheels?

They are proprietary spokes, but in terms of weight similar to the CX Ray.

Pillar make some reasonably priced bladed spokes which weigh in line with the CX Ray, but they are hard to find in the UK and they are not as good

If I can I would like to get the weight below 1500g for the wheel set, and thats where I thought having them built up with Sapim CX Rays would do the job.
