Hi. I am a newbie to the cycling and getting fit regime. I have been through around 10 websites looking at reviews and prices for a bike for beginners. And when all seems good with 1 bike a few reviews later they put doubt in my mind about buying it.
I have a budget of around £300 and could push to £350. I know it may not seem alot to you guys who have been cycling for a long time but I thought if I get 1 at that price and dont like the cycling element of me getting fitter then I wont lose out (so to speak).
I have seen these bikes and wondering which 1 you guys would choose if you had to.

Thank you for looking and hopefuly helping me out in deciding what to choose. And happy cycling folks.

I would try something like this as it has a wide range of gears and is a well made, comfortable rather than more agressive racing bike.

Of the bikes you listed avoid the viking, spending a little more gets a much better bike.0 -
the time is right for buying , but get the best deal you can , i would go for a 18 speed minimum , for a road bike
go for a compact chain set 9 speed rear with a 34/50 front ( 2 front rings instead of a tripple ) also many bike shops sell with intrest free credit 0% , or there are cycle to work schemes .

9spd compact , most decent road bikes start at around £650 entry level , below this price would probably leave you wanting more .0 -

Thank you all for your feedback and any other bikes you could recommend for the price range would be highly appreciate.
Thanks again from a pure novice0 -
I would avoid the Viking as too highly geared meaning you will struggle getting up steep hills. The Decathlon link is not working but by all accounts they are very good bikes for that price range, so it may be worth going for that one if you can maybe try it out for size and have a test ride.0

Have a look at Halfords because they have Boardman bikes with a 25% discount.
If you have British Cycling membership you also get a further 10% off (if it works with sale items).
Decathlon bikes are also excellent value for money.
Also worth looking for second hand bikes. If you find one which has been well maintained you will get much more of a bike than a new one in the same price category.
What ever bike you go for make sure it is the correct fit.0 -

I would look at 2nd hand Mekk or Giant. You will get a better bie for the money.
On gearing, look at a triple ring (three chainrings on the pedals) or a compact. These give a very broad range of gears. Th triple is easier to live with if you are new but not fashionable in this country so you may get a bargain that way.0 -
Go for the Mekk0
