Hi
Id really like to read this review in full but despite googling keywords and googling the whole wording below I cant find it anywhere. I am guessing it may have been only a hard copy magazine?
All it brings up is gumtree and selling site adverts where they have copied the below text into their sales patter.
Anyone seen it online?
Thanks
Rich
Boardman Mountain Bike Pro Hardtail 29er
MBR, Hardtail of the Year - £1000 category, "Not only is it the lightest on test, but the Pro 29er also possesses both lateral stiffness and vertical compliance. Basically it out-accelerates the rest, whilst simultaneously ironing out trail buzz like nothing else. That's an impressive trick to master." Rated 9/10.
Halfords acknowledges that MBR is a Trademark of IPC Media.

Sorry, I copied too much from the halfords page and have edited my post.
Its the bit above about it getting Hardtail of the Year £1000 catergory that I am trying to find0 -
The individual review is online
http://www.mbr.co.uk/reviews/hardtail/boardman-pro-29er-review
but the hardtail of the year tests available are only up for 2015 and 2016
You also may need to make up your mind quickly as they are discontinued and the new one will be out in a month or so0 -

Thanks, I'd previously looked at that but like you say it features this years models and in the £1000 catergory the boardman isnt listed.
On another note, and taken with a huge grain of Halfords salt!! My local store told me they refresh the Boardman range every 2 to 3 years and the new Pro 29er isnt due an update until 2017 - and its only on sale as part of an across the board sale on Boardmans.
Though I do appreciate the store staff are sometimes the last to know!0 -

They used to be a 3 year refresh rate but it's now changed to 2. My mate has ridden the 2016 BBL HT Pro and said it done better than he expected coming from a predominantly FS background. Handled awful conditions with ease. After riding the 2016 one he rode the 2014 one, only difference he found was the fork had better damping on the 2016 one. I won't go into more details as my mate still works for the company but I would be tempted to hold out and get the new one with BC and a 10% weekend, or go in reserve one you can find for a couple of months and put £50 down. Transfer it if it isn't to your liking.
Last but not least the new FS Pro has Pikes0 -

Thanks for the info, but Ive already bought a brand new current Pro 29er for £360 which was a massive bargain so, it would have to be something special for me to spend around £800 (discounted from a £1000 rrp Im guessing) to get better damping.
I was just curious to read up on it and why it won £1000 HT of the year.0 -
Please tell me you secret this bike for £300 http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/mountain-bikes/boardman-mountain-bike-pro-hardtail-29er
I want one...0 -

Someone stolen Xmas Present or Water Damaged from York... Surely halfords don't do that much of silly discount?0

Sadly nothing as exciting theory wise as your great minds are coming up with.
Its from Halfords brand new with receipt and the Boardman info pack, I would never buy a bike from Gumtree for obvious reasons.
Its to do with cycle to work or something similar and a very generous PLC that my friend works for - is probably the best way to describe it.
I actually paid £400 for it but it came with £40 of (receipted) extras which I have taken back to Halfords, but as it was over 30 days they have put on a gift card, so net cost to me is £360, just need to figure what to spend the £40 on....0 -

Thanks! Not been out on it yet, just happily reading all the info and professional and user reviews on it that I can find, hence the original question on the top of this thread.
I think its selling well at the £749 price point (plus BC and vouchers etc) as its gone from been in stock for delivery to in store only and then when I check my local stores there is no stock0 -
If your friend you bought it from hasn't made the final payment on his cycle to work then he doesn't actually own the bike to sell it.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Well, I'll leave that for the cycle to work Police to deal with...0 -
I bought one last week in Halfords with the 25% discount plus an additional 10% discount as it was a display model. I paid £675 in total.
I took it up to Rivington and it performed brilliantly. It's my first 29er and after riding a 26" full suss for a few years I love the new wheel size. Efficient and fast rolling, great bike for the money.Specialized Roubaix
Cannondale F900 SL
Specialized Stumpjumper FSR1200 -

Good to know, I might have ventured out today but its absolutely sheeting it down!
Best ive done is sat on it in the house and rode a few meters in the hallway - much to the annoyance of the missus!0 -

Which means having knowingly defrauded hmrc and bought stolen goods.0 -

True stories:
1) "Hi, I got this bike off a friend, it's only a few months old but there seem to be something wrong with the fork."
"Then your friend needs to take care of it"
2) "I'd like to book my bike in for repair, it's only a few months old but it's making a funny noise. My name's Smith and here's the receipt "
"Your receipt says Jones"0 -
At that (unlikely) point I'll sell the bike for spares or repair for £100 and its cost me £260 or the equivalent of a good night out.
Think I'll sleep ok tonight...0 -
Maybe, but it's technically the same as buying something off the guy at the pub. You know the one, with the knock off videos.
Your friend has no right to sell it, because he doesn't own it, he just leases it from his company.
I'm sure nothing will go wrong, but technically you are a criminal.I don't do smileys.

Nothing like getting hung, drawn and quartered by keyboard warriors lol - I only came on here for a review!
And for the record I've never bought a dodgy video down the pub.
There are very few people in the world who haven't committed a criminal offence - driven 10ft without a seatbelt, looked at hardcore porn, driven over the speed limit, let their TV license lapse for a month.
Oh and for the record before someone passes me 6ft of rope on here, I've no idea if it is actually cycle to work or some other scheme this Plc operates, I dont really even know what cycle to work is or the mechanics of it, I am self employed and have never used the scheme, I just put "Its to do with cycle to work or something similar and a very generous PLC that my friend works for - is probably the best way to describe it." - as I am unsure what it is, it might just be discounted Halfords vouchers or a lump sum for encouraging healthy practice. I do know a while ago they ran out of car park space and tried to encourage others to use alternative means and there was a sweetner for this.

Anyway in case anyone is interested, here are the reviews I have found so far - looks a promising bit of kit...
(and Halfords users give it 4.7 out of 5)

The irony is that being self employed you could have set up your own cycle to work scheme and saved yourself even more money - and legally.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Why seek reviews for something you already have? Surely it's better to ask pre purchase. However you could always post your own review once you've actually ridden the bike !0

I didnt come on here to seek reviews for a bike I already had.
I came on here as per the thread title and as explained in the original post to find a single specific review relating to why the bike had won £1000 hardtail of the year - a single review/competition of hardtails in the £1000 bracket, after reading all other reviews prior to purchase, that had evaded me.
I would still like to read it and hence this thread - I am just curious to see why it pipped other great bikes in this category to win.
All the other links I mention a couple of post backs were reviews I read prior to purchase.0 -
If you understood how bike of the year worked you would know it's all pretty irrelevant......just get on with riding it unless your name is Cody!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
