Hi all
Looking to buy a new bike, I ride the south downs, friston forest, forest of dean.I'm not a big jumper by any means.
I'm looking at the
Trek fuel http://www.trekbikes.com/gb/en_GB/bikes/mountain/trail/fuel-ex/fuel-ex-5-29/p/2132600-2016
The giant stance http://www.giant-shoreham.co.uk/en-gb/bikes/model/stance.27.5/25030/90565/
And the Scott spark http://www.evocycles.co.uk/m1b53s1p5598/SCOTT-Spark-960-2016
I know the trek is a 29er but love the look of it.
I'm after advise as I'm not sure where to go, I was set on a gt sensor but after talking to lots of people it sound like the sets up of the bike just isn't write.
Any help would be appreciated

Working stance link http://www.giant-shoreham.co.uk/en-gb/bikes/model/stance.27.5/25030/90565/
The Scott and Trek are both really badly specced for £1500 bikes, that is shocking.
The Stance is at least cheaper!
What usage for the bike as those are three different types of bikes you have there!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

Well I'd like a full suspension but not sure what way to go.
I like the fact the Scott can be locked out front and rear.
I love the look of the trek and the giant has quite good reviews for the price.
I'm not expecting xt all round but would these bikes last if looked aftet?
My other option is a £1500 hardtail.
I'm quite over taken by the options and choice.I currently have a 2007 marin rift zone which is fine but it's older technology and I discovered yesterday that the quod link suspension won't find my new carrier that I got for xmas0 -
The Boardman is better than any of them and cheaper

Shame the spec on the Fuel is so bad as they do ride really we'll in 29er form. That fork has no right being on a bike costing that much.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0

I really like the Fuel frame, but it's far too expensive for what you get. The forks are crap, the wheels are nasty and three finger brake levers force all kinds of bad habits.
For £1000 it's worth considering the Calibre Bossnut

What sort of riding will you be doing, like I say those are pretty different bikes, so not all could suite what you want to do.
I'd look at an Anthem from Pauls cycles as a good option, or the Calibre or Boardman, all will be about £1000 and better than any of those three.
Lockout isn't needed with decent suspension units, I do plenty of road sections on my FS and never miss not having a lockout as both suspension units have an adjustable pedal platform.
Really you want Deore or SRAM equivalent at that price throughout.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

Most of my riding is xc and single track.
I can probably stretch to £1500 if that would make much difference?
Thanks for the feed back guys0 -

It's a bike which suits much harder riding. Basically an enduro bike. Treks rear suspension is a bit marmite, some people love it, some (including me) think it's bloody awful and wallowey.
The Kona Process on the other hand is much more suitable and a proper bargain. Brilliant fork and transmission, unbeatable at this price. Excellent frame as well.

Would I be better off with a high end hardtail like a crush?0

You do like to pick overpriced/underspec'd bikes don't you!
Plenty of "high end" HTs that will offer significantly better VFM than a Crush.Trail fun - Transition Bandit
Road - Wilier Izoard Centaur/Cube Agree C62 Disc
Allround - Cotic Solaris0 -
Yes, and no.
A hardtail will give you a lighter and better specced ride for the money - its a very personal decision, but not a Crush, its really poor value!
The 'right' full sus can be a joy to ride, almost indistinguishable from an HT where it matters yet giving that soft riding feel over the lumps and bumps that would either have you jolting around or out the saddle expending more effort on an HT, it's what I have achieved with my home brewed bike (link in sig), of production bikes I know the Anthem gets very close to that feeling (ridden one) as does a (budget busting) Pivot, I'm told the tallboy does but haven't ridden one. The key is the rear suspension geometry and having a good shock with the right pedal platform (adjustable on mine and on some Manitou's, not on most lower end Fox or RS though - not an issue if it's been specced right for the bike of course).Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
As has been said, log onto Pauls Cycles and have a look at the Giant Anthem. You can pick up a 2015 Anthem 2 for £1149.99.
Have a look here (all sizes in stock as well)

I can support that, just got my trance a month ago and it's pretty amazing, obviously there is some bob (hard to eliminate no matter what), but it is quite subtle and doesn't noticeably decrease efficiency. Get the 2015 model for a big discount-Cube Acid 29" 2013
